The Intern by Marni Mann (The Dalton Family #4)

 📎📎📎📎📎

My favorite in the series so far! Filled with super hot tension and witty banter, Declan and Hannah were everything I've been hoping for and more.

I've loved every book in this series, and truly enjoyed watching the tropes unfold in this one. From their undeniable connection when they meet, to the heat coming off the page, I was captivated until the very end.

The plot was well thought out, and this was quite possibly the steamiest book Marni has written yet. If I could extend it so the storyline lasted me another month, it would still be over too soon.

**Enemies to Lovers
**Workplace Romance

SUMMARY

In the legal world, everyone knows my last name. So, when Declan Shaw -- the hottest, most ruthless and sought-after litigator in the state -- comes in to mentor my class's mock trial, I decide not to reveal that piece of personal information.

I want a one-on-one with him like I'm any other law student, especially when we go out to celebrate after class.

But the one-on-one ends with us in the alley behind the bar.

With us stripping off our clothes.

With me screaming his name.

It's desperate-to-have-you, no-holds-barred, downright filthy sex.

And then, he ghosts me, like a complete alphahole.

But a few weeks later, when I walk into The Dalton Group -- my family's law firm -- where I'm starting my internship, my new boss is waiting for me.

The man I despise.

The man I can still taste in my fantasies.

Declan Shaw.

A Brush with Love by Mazey Eddings

🦷🦷🦷🦷🦷

My favorite book of 2022! I'm honestly still in shock this is the DEBUT release from Mazey Eddings, and can't wait to see what else she has in store for readers in the future.

As someone with severe dental anxiety, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book, but it has everything I love and a few points that hit close to home for me, so I easily devoured the audiobook in one sitting.

With multiple POV's, you get to see the story unfold from both Dan and Harper, which is even more entertaining since they each have their very own opinionated views on dentistry and falling in love (distractions.)

From start to finish, I wasn't able to stop listening to this beautifully written tale, and one of the best parts was the friends who go to endless lengths to try and bring them together. Just their shenanigans alone are worth reading this book for, along with:

**Anxiety Rep
**Cinnamon Roll Hero
**Debut Author
**Dental Students
**Meddling Friends
**Slow Burn

SUMMARY:

Harper is anxiously awaiting placement into a top oral surgery residency program when she crashes (literally) into Dan. Harper would rather endure a Novocaine-free root canal than face any distractions, even one this adorable.

A first-year dental student with a family legacy to contend with, Dan doesn't have the same passion for pulling teeth that Harper does. Though he finds himself falling for her, he is willing to play by Harper's rules.

So with the greatest of intentions and the poorest of follow-throughs, the two set out to be "just friends." But as they get to know each other better, Harper fears that trading fillings for feelings may make her lose control and can't risk her carefully ordered life coming undone, no matter how drool-worthy Dan is.

Blood, gore and extra-long roots? No problem. The idea of falling in love? Torture.

The Dating Playbook by Farrah Rochon (The Boyfriend Project #2)

🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

Loved it with my whole heart! This was the perfect fake dating story between an NFL star and a personal trainer. If you're looking for a great romcom to end your summer, this is the one you want.

Taylor has debt coming out of her ears, so when Jamal offers her an insane amount of money and the opportunity to get her business off the ground, in order to get him back into shape, she can't say no.

Taylor is such a fierce and lovable character that a lot of us can relate to. I also enjoyed the flirty banter between the two, and felt the story had the perfect blend of humor, romance and realism. These two are one of my new favorite couples, and I can't wait for more in this series!

I was lucky enough to listen to the audiobook thanks to an advanced copy from Hachette Audio, and it brings the characters to life perfectly.

SUMMARY:

When a personal trainer agrees to fake date her client, all rules are out the window in this delightful romantic comedy from the USA Today bestselling author of The Boyfriend Project!

When it comes to personal training, Taylor Powell kicks serious butt. Unfortunately, her bills are piling up, rent is due, and the money situation is dire. Taylor needs more than the support of her new best friends, Samiah and London. She needs a miracle.

And Jamar Dixon might just be it. The oh-so-fine former footballer wants back into the NFL, and he wants Taylor to train him. There's just one catch -- no one can know what they're doing. But when they're accidentally outed as a couple, Taylor's game plan is turned completely upside down. Is Jamar just playing to win...or is he playing for keeps?

Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey

💛💛💛💛

I want to binge-watch rom-coms now! Waiting for Tom Hanks was a pleasant surprise for my rom-com loving soul. This is the second time reading this and I loved it even more with the audiobook bringing the characters to life.

This feel-good story will remind you of all the amazing reasons why you love films like "You've Got Mail", "Two Weeks Notice", etc. There were so many points that I related with Annie, especially our mutual love for all things Nora Ephron.

If you're looking for a great summer vacation read, I'd highly recommend packing this one in your suitcase! Such a delightful look at not only the movie business, but how relationships are viewed from someone who truly believes in happily ever afters and meet-cute's.

😄 Comedy

💋 Romance

SUMMARY:

Can a romcom-obsessed romantic finally experience the meet-cute she always dreamed of or will reality never compare to fiction, in this charming debut novel from Kerry Winfrey.

Annie Cassidy dreams of being the next Nora Ephron. She spends her days writing screenplays, rewatching Sleepless in Seattle, and waiting for her movie-perfect meet-cute. If she could just find her own Tom Hanks -- a man who's sweet, sensitive, and possibly owns a houseboat -- her problems would disappear and her life would be perfect. But Tom Hanks is nowhere in sight.

When a movie starts filming in her neighborhood and Annie gets a job on set, it seems like a sign. Then Annie meets the lead actor, Drew Danforth, a cocky prankster who couldn't be less like Tom Hanks if he tried. Their meet-cute is more of a meet-fail, but soon Annie finds herself sharing some classic rom-com moments with Drew. Her Tom Hanks can't be an actor who's leaving town in a matter of days...can he?

I was sold on this book the second Evie risked her life for an animal, but add in a delightfully charming farmer with an accent, and I'm a goner. This story was like going on a vacation with your best friends, just wanting them all to find happiness and learning how to follow your own dreams as well. A feel-good romcom that will leave you with a smile for days!

Gutter Girl by Lynn Rush & Kelly Anne Blount (Twin River High #1)

💛💛💛💛💛

This took me back to high school! Gutter Girl will have you remembering all the reasons you were so glad to be done with the drama of high school, but grateful for the genuine friendships that came out of it.

McKenna is thrust into the limelight, but all she wants is to stay invisible to everyone except her best friend Ernie. She steps up to cover for Jace, even though she has enough on her plate at home (don't get me started on how I feel about her mother!)

Jace Rovers is the popular jock, but if his friends ever discovered that he's the author of the famous Kingdom of Swords, they'd never let him live it down. So he's forced to allow McKenna to pretend on his behalf.

While the two are secretly in cahoots and covering their tracks, they open up to one another and develop a friendship that rivals what seldom few people find.

This YA Romance had me rooting for both the jock and the goth girl, all while wondering when the secrets would be revealed. There was SO much witty banter and great characters, that I was surprised by the ones that stole by heart in the end. Definitely looking forward to more in this series!

Here's a playlist to listen to while you read:

Spotify Playlist for McKenna & Jace

💋 YA Romance

SUMMARY:

Star football player Jace Rovers has a secret. And not just any secret -- a shocking secret... He writes romance. The kind with swords. And dresses. And kissing.

Nobody knows. Not the other kids at Twin River High. Not his overbearing parents. And certainly not the millions of fans who've read his book on the writing platform Scribbles. And that's the way he plans to keep it.

Except suddenly one of the other football players grabs his notebook in jest and starts reading a kissing scene out loud...and Jace knows he's busted.

But then McKenna Storm, resident goth girl who avoids the spotlight like a virus, snatches up the notebook and tells everyone she's the author. And lucky for Jace, she later agrees to continue the ruse...for a price.

Heck, he'd give her anything not to reveal his secret. But when they start to fall for each other, he knows he'll have to keep the biggest secret of all -- his darkest character is based on her...

Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams (Bromance Book Club #3)

📘📘📘📘📘

This one hit close to home for me. Crazy Stupid Bromance is probably my favorite book in the series so far, but I'm also counting down the days until Isn't It Bromantic? releases on July 20th.

In the span of a day, we watch Alexis's life get turned upside down when she discovers she has siblings by the father she never knew. Luckily she has Noah to confide in and help give her advice as she sorts how to proceed.

Noah has a past of his own that he's been fortunate enough to put behind him, but he's willing to do anything for the woman he secretly loves, especially if it means keeping her safe.

***So here's where we get personal:

I know who my birth father is and that I have two half-siblings through him. The problem is he never told his wife about my existence, so the fear of being rejected if I reach out to my siblings is extremely high, especially since I had my mom reach out to him over a decade ago for medical history, and he said not to contact him again. I have the Ancestry test to take, but I'm terrified of possibly breaking someone's heart when they learn the truth.***

There were a few scenes that had my heart lodged in my throat. I listened to the audio on Audible and that hit me on an even deeper level. Beefcake the cat will have you rolling in laughter and is the scene-stealer of the story. I can't recommend this book enough!

😄 Comedy

💋 Romance

SUMMARY:

Alexis Carlisle and her cat café, ToeBeans, have shot to fame after she came forward as a victim of a celebrity chef's sexual harassment. When a new customer approaches to confide in her, the last thing Alexis expects is for the woman to claim they're sisters. Unsure what to do, Alexis turns to the only man she trusts -- her best friends, Noah Logan.

Computer genius Noah left his rebellious teenage hacker past behind to become a computer security expert. Now he only uses his old skills for the right cause. But Noah's got a secret: He's madly in love with Alexis. When she asks for his help, he wonders if the timing will ever be right to confess his crush.

Noah's pals in The Bromance Book Club are more than willing to share their beloved "manuals" to help him go from bud to boyfriend. But he must decide if telling the truth is worth risking the best friendship he's ever had.

A hacktivist and a cat café owner decode the friend zone in this romantic comedy from the author of Undercover Bromance.

💙💙💙💙💙

The Happy Ever After Playlist is the must-read book of 2020! I've been counting down the days for this release ever since Sloan was introduced to readers in The Friend Zone.

Sloan starts off the story with a hilarious meet-cute of her own, only it's with a lost dog who wreaks havoc on her day. The bond she shares with Tucker will pull at your heart strings and draw you in to the story right away.

Jason is a man after my own heart. His witty and flirty banter with Sloan will put him at the top of your book boyfriend list. I love that they get to know each other through daily questions and phone calls.

Fans of The Friend Zone will love this book, and appreciate that it won't wreck your heart nearly as much as the first book does, lol.

With plenty of appearances from our favorite duo, Kristen and Josh, this story was everything I was hoping for and more. A pure delight, especially if you get the audiobook!

😄 Comedy
💋 Romance

Tweet Cute is a fun and flirty romance! Filled with plenty of banter and witt, you'll have sore cheeks from laughing so hard.

Pepper has the world on her plate and always tries to do the best she can to solve every problem, but when the real world collides with her online escapades, nothing is as it seems.

Summary:

Meet Pepper, swim team captain, chronic overachiever, and all-around perfectionist. Her family may be falling apart, but their massive fast-food chain is booming -- mainly thanks to Pepper, who is barely managing to juggle real life while secretly running Big League Burger's massive Twitter account.

Enter Jack, class clown and constant thorn in Pepper's side. When he isn't trying to duck out of his obscenely popular twin's shadow, he's busy working in his family's deli. As their relationship deepens and their online shenanigans escalate -- people on the internet are shipping them?? -- their battle gets more and more personal, until even these two rivals can't ignore they were destined for the most unexpected, awkward, all-the-feels romance that neither of them expected.

Diana: Princess of the Amazons by Shannon & Dean Hale

👑👑👑👑👑

Diana: Princess of the Amazons is outstanding! The perfect graphic novel for young and old, no matter your age, you'll love this story.

A fun adventure of a young Wonder Woman that will uplift and empower you. Such a delightful story that captures the heart of every comic book fan that loves a strong female character.

I read this with my 6 year old niece who dreads reading anything without pictures, and she absolutely devoured this book. A delightful look at what helped make Wonder Woman who she is today and I highly recommend this to everyone.

💫 Adventure

Summary:

Cut off from the rest of the world, Diana had an idyllic childhood on Themyscira. But now 11-years-old, she's beginning to feel more and more isolated. Though she has many "aunties" and a loving mother, she is an only child. THE only child, in fact.

After an escapade goes wrong, Queen Hippolyta chastises Diana for not living up to the Amazon standard. Diana just can't seem to measure up, no matter what she does! Literally every other person on the island is an adult proficient in their trade and mighty in body, while she is gangly, sometimes clumsy, and not particularly proficient in anything. She's not Wonder Woman yet. What Diana needs is a friend; someone her own age whom she can talk to. But when she decides to take matters into her own hands - she may just make a monster instead.

Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center

🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺

Things You Save in a Fire is a beautifully poignant read that no one should miss! Katherine Center is a new-to-me author that I'm kicking myself for not discovering sooner.

This book focuses on Cassie Hanwell and her love of firefighting. She has a past full of tragedy that she's never discussed with anyone, which has also kept her from dating as well.

Despite everything, she's determined to be the best firefighter she can be, so when that chance is threatened after an encounter with her past, Cassie must transfer stations and start all over.

The timing is perfect, as her mother calls with a desperate plea for her help. Their estranged relationship is awkward, mainly due to poor communication and resentment. When certain things come to light, it puts the past and present in a whole new perspective.

Still reeling from life changing news, Cassie must also deal with a stalker who wants her out of the firehouse and possibly dead. She also has growing feelings for the rookie, which is not only against the rules, but something Cassie never thought she'd be able to feel after her past.

Throughout the book, you get to experience her personal growth during the many trials she faces. I found myself glued to each page - demanding answers, justice, and closure.

This is definitely one that I'm immediately adding to my bookshelf and recommending to anyone that'll listen! I can't wait to dive into How to Walk Away after finishing this phenomenal book.

 💧 Drama
🔎 Mystery
💋 Romance

Summary:
Cassie Hanwell was born for emergencies. As one of the only female firefighters in her Texas firehouse, she's seen her fair share of them, and she's excellent at dealing with other people's tragedies. But when her estranged and ailing mother asks her to uproot her life and move to Boston, it's an emergency of a kind Cassie never anticipated.

The tough, old-school Boston firehouse is as different from Cassie's old job as it could possibly be. Hazing, a lack of funding, and poor facilities mean that the firemen aren't exactly thrilled to have a "lady" on the crew, even one as competent and smart as Cassie. Except for the handsome rookie, who doesn't seem to mind having Cassie around. But she can't think about that. Because she doesn't fall in love. And because of the advice her old captain gave her: don't date firefighters. Cassie can feel her resolve slipping...but will she jeopardize her place in career where she's worked so hard to be taken seriously?

Say You're Sorry by Karen Rose (Sacramento Series #1)

❤❤❤❤❤

Say You're Sorry is a thrilling onion, with many layers to captivate and intrigue you! I couldn't put this book down, and kept trying to figure out what was going to happen next, only to be kept on my toes in suspense.

I enjoy when stories are told from multiple points of view, it helps my anxiety level to actually be able to see the dark inner workings of the villain (evil as they may be).

This was definitely out of my comfort range, as I typically read romance, drama or comedies, but I highly recommend this if you're looking for a good mystery/thriller. I can't wait for more in the series and have already purchased other works by this author. A must-read if you enjoy serial killer podcasts!

Summary:
When Daisy Dawson thwarts an attack by a serial killer, her whole world is turned upside down as she works with the authorities to track down the suspect, and figure out his motives.

Working with FBI Special Agent Gideon Reynolds, is the last thing she expected, especially since her family friends have been trying to set her up with him since she moved to town. Gideon has demons of his own and ones that tie to evidence that Daisy removed from her attacker.

My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren

💛💛💛💛💛

Fans of "She's the Man" will LOVE this book! When 5 highly intelligent best friend agree to sign up on a dating site in order to procure a plus one for a special work event, hilarity ensues.

They're all married to their jobs and the world of being sociable with the opposite sex is way out of their comfort zones. After they all beg Millie (the only female in the group), to write their profile intros, she creates a new one for herself under a different name. When she matches with her best friend, what begins as a joke, turns into a way for her to open up and be vulnerable like she's never allowed herself to be.

The chemistry between Millie and Reid is so strong, you just want to reach through the book and shake some sense into them. The characters are so entertaining, you'll find yourself wishing you had your own circle of misfits.

I couldn't stop once I started this book and was sad when I got to the epilogue. I will definitely be buying this in audiobook as well. It's one of my favorite RomComs of the year!

After her boyfriend is caught cheating and it's plastered all over social media, the idea of going home for the holidays is the last thing Adele James wants. She sneaks away to the family cabin without telling anyone, which is why she ends up being snowed in with long-time friend of the family, Jace Kilpatrick (not to mention the guy she's had a crush on for years).

I enjoyed this holiday romance immensely! It definitely got me in the Christmas spirit and I especially loved all the antics with Adele's dog, Katie. There's plenty of romance, comedy and a little bit of drama. I highly recommend this one!

Broken Promise by Tara Thomas (Sons of Broad series #3)

❤❤❤❤❤

Police Officer Alyssa Adams has had to live with a tragic loss, but when her world collides with the current tragedies of the case she's working on, she's not sure who to trust.

Kipling Benedict has only recently discovered he has a sister, right before she's abducted by The Gentleman. He's determined to save her, while helping Alyssa get the answers she deserves, but at what risk?

This book is full of suspense and action, stopping your heart, just as you catch your breath. The best (and creepiest) parts, are the POV of the villian, I loved being able to see into his mind, even if it gave me goosebumps. Definitely not a book to read before you go to bed, but intriguing while keeping you on your toes.

Total honesty - I wasn't a fan of the first book, as I had a hard time getting into it and I NEED closure in my stories, but the series is definitely worth hanging in there for!

I missed out on the second book, but I feel like you get enough answers from this one, that you're not left in the dark. A great trilogy, but definitely read them in order!

Misadventures with a Rookie by Toni Aleo (Misadventures Series #11)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bo vows never to fall under for the charms and flirtations of a rookie, making the same mistake that destroyed her chance at a scholarship.

Gus is determined to discover the reason behind Bo's outright hatred, using every chance he can to charm her and break down the wall she's built.

This story is the perfect blend of romance, drama, humor and hockey. Both characters families are very dynamic and there's more to the story than a light fluffy tale. I couldn't put it down and it made me want to watch Mighty Ducks as an adult!
