Back in the Burbs by Tracy Wolff, Avery Flynn (The Burbs #1)

🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩

If you need a good escape from reality, this is it! Back in the Burbs was everything I was hoping for from this dynamic pair of writers, and more!!!

Nick is one of those broody characters that you love to hate, the kind that always follow the rules and sticks to a daily routine that doesn't involve having a social life.

Mallory has suffered one loss after another and is tired of people making decisions for her and being told what she should do. This is the fresh start she needs and she'll do everything in her power to make it a reality.

I adore all of Avery Flynn's books, so I knew I would be all-in with this one, but from the first to last page I was a goner. So many shenanigans with the HOA and surrounding busy-bodies, you're guaranteed to get a good ab workout from laughter.

With plenty of witty banter, tender moments of realization and an underlying romance with the enemy, this has been quite the delightful escape from the norm. Put this on your must-read list for 2021!

SUMMARY:

Ever have one of those days where life just plain sucks? Welcome to my last three months -- ever since I caught my can't-be-soon-enough ex-husband cheating with his paralegal. I'm thirty-five years old, and I've lost my NYC apartment, my job, my money, and frankly, my dignity.

But the final heartache in the suck sandwich of my life? My great-aunt Maggie died. The only family member who's ever gotten me.

Ever after death, though, she's helping me get back up. She's willed me the keys to a house in the burbs, of all places, and dared me to grab life by the family jewels. Well, I've got the vise grips already in hand (my ex should take note) and I'm ready to fight for my life again.

Too bad that bravado only lasts as long as it takes to drive into Huckleberry Hills. And see the house.

There are forty-seven separate HOA violations, and I feel them all in my bones. Honestly, I'm surprised no one's "accidentally" torched the house yet. I want to, and I've only been standing in front of it for five minutes. But then my hot, grumpy neighbor tells me to mow the lawn first and I'm just...done. Done with men too sexy for their own good and done with anyone telling me what to do ever again.

First rule of surviving the burbs? There is nothing that YouTube and a glass of wine can't conquer.

The Dance by Alison G. Bailey

💛💛💛💛

The Dance is beautifully heartbreaking! This book will pull out every emotion while you read, and I highly suggest having kleenex and chocolate nearby.

While I love Bryon's character, there were times were I just wanted to shake her and get some real feelings out. Will just needs to be taken to a pig farm...enough said.

Will is a lovable personality that will have you rooting for him to get the girl, even when you know it's not possible in the beginning. His past has made him into a wonderful character that I could read for hours.

The storyline hit VERY close to home for me, so it was hard to read in that aspect, but overall it was a beautiful story about second chances and overcoming painful secrets. This was my first book by Alison G. Bailey and I'm looking forward to more!

Summary:

Bryson Walker stumbled heart first into the steady rhythm of her life, never questioning whether other possibilities existed. She had been Will's girl since their junior year in high school, followed him to college, and married him soon after graduation.

In every respect, they were a loving and successful couple, until a series of missteps shattered all of Bryson's truths. Maybe their life was nothing more than smoke and mirrors. A performance that was never based in reality.

Hart was barely an acquaintance. He and Bryson shared one brief moment during senior prom, full of friction and heat that ignited a spark. But that night Bryson walked away and Hart let her go.

Years later, twisted fate brings Bryson and Hart together again, causing her to wonder if this is her second chance at once in a lifetime.

Shelf Awareness by Katie Ashley (Green Valley Library #4)

📕📕📕📕📕

Shelf Awareness is the perfect tale of finding happiness when you least expect it! The story brings together two people who are broken in their own ways.

While their friendship grows, Zeke and Finley help one another deal with their past issues, with the assistance/interference of three hilarious "godmothers" butting in.

This was my first book by Katie Ashley, and man did I fall hard and fast for these characters. I loved this story and was sad when it was over, as I could've stayed in their world for much longer.

Summary:

After catching her husband in a compromising position, the last thing that Finley Granger wants is to enter the insanity that is the dating world. She's dealing with enough upheaval: she's quit her job as a journalist in Atlanta to start over as a librarian in the backwoods town of Green Valley, Tennessee. But her grandmother has other ideas. When GramBea teams up with her sister, Dot, and their best friend, Estelle, Finley finds herself surrounded by a trio of well-meaning yet incredibly bumbling matchmakers.

In spite of their efforts, there's only one man she's curious about, and that's Zeke Masters, the library's volunteer IT specialist. Sure, he's 6'4", impossibly build, ridiculously good-looking, and gets her nether regions tingling. However, it's the tingle of her journalist spidey-senses that holds her attention most as she wonders why he's on sabbatical from Seattle. Is he on lam, or on the run from a bad relationship? As Finley finds herself reluctantly drawn to the gorgeous IT guy, she can't help but wonder: should she indulge in a little rebound fun with the mysterious Zeke - or has she finally met her match?
