The Ring Reader by Keira K. Barton

💖💖💖💖💖

Faye Jansen fell in love with Elias Shelton when she turned eighteen. Surprised that he becomes so quickly enamored with Faye, after refusing all attempts by his parents to set him up with the perfect match, Elias knows without a doubt that she's the woman he's going to marry.

In the future, they're happily wed with a daughter, but when it appears as though Elias is lost at sea, Faye has nowhere to turn for answers except for the local witch. When a spell is cast upon her wedding ring and the witch is captured by the townfolk, Faye is left with the aftermath of discovering what the new magic will bring.

When she's alone, Faye finds herself transported to the time where her romance began with Elias. Back in the present, when her daughter discovers what is happening, the two of them try to figure out what the powers mean for Faye.

I was hesitant with the time-traveling factor, afraid that Faye would try to change the future, or that it would be repetitive, but I was quickly proven wrong. After realizing she can only watch the past as a witness, I enjoyed learning how the couple came to be and it made my heart hurt even more for Faye in the present time.

This is a great start to the series and I can't wait to see what other couples Faye unites in future stories. Definitely give this book a chance and you'll fall in love with the characters as well!

Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier (Ruby Red Trilogy #1)

💗💗💗💗💗

The first book in the Ruby Red Trilogy introduces you to Gwyneth Shepherd. She was raised her entire life to believe that it would one day be her cousin Charlotte, who would have the ability to travel in time. One day she's shocked to discover that her mother lied about her birth date so nobody would suspect it was Gwyneth, enabling her to have a normal childhood.

After the family discovers the truth, Gwyneth is surrounded by skeptism, hurt and lies - and that's just within her family. She is then forced to work with Gideon, another time traveler, to learn what she needs to know before venturing into the unknown.

As Gideon and Gwyneth travel back in time, they start to discover that perhaps they haven't been everything and there are some secrets left to uncover. Not to mention a creepy count and family members that have escaped permanently into the past.

I haven't ventured into the YA world in a few years, so add in the Fantasy elements and I was hesitant to start this series (only because it's out of my norm). It was recommended by a friend of mine and my only regret is not starting it sooner!

I purchased the audiobook when she told me about the series, but I kept putting it off for other books. One day I was in a rut and needed something new, so I started this at work and didn't stop listening until the end. I immediately bought the rest of the series and the boxed paperback set!

Ruby Red is my favorite surprise read of 2018! With several mysteries to unravel, time travel aspects, family dynamics and more, you'll be captivated from the first page and drawn in to this stellar novel. I can't say this enough - EVERYONE should read this series!
