👑👑👑 1/2
A charming retelling of Cinderella! Midnight Princess was over much too soon for me. A fairy tale with a dark twist, this was a great addition to the series.
**Spoiler alert:
The fact that Cynthia loses her virginity right after her mother beats her was so out of left field, I literally had to put the book down for a few hours and come back to it.
I didn't feel anything romantic between the two characters, mainly because there was SO much squeezed into such a short story. It just felt all physical, and I couldn't see any true feelings on Ashton's end.
It really pained me to only give this 3.5 stars, but the story line felt way to rushed, making it hard to swallow for me personally. I enjoyed the premise behind the story, but I feel it would've been given much more justice if it was a full-length book.
I'd definitely give it another chance if it was written into a longer story, so the characters relationships could be more developed. I loved the sisters and her fierce protection of them, but overall, it was just too much story squeezed into a novella-sized book.

SUMMARY:
After the untimely death of her grandparents, Cynthia was propelled into becoming a guardian to her younger half-sisters, Penelope and Charmaine. As they all lived under the tyrannical rule of their drunken mother, she constantly felt that this wasn't the life that she was meant to lead. She dreamed of one day her mother becoming sober enough for her to remember that she once loved her children. Unfortunately, that day would never come, and her heart would harden with each cruel comment from her mother.
It wasn't until her freshman year in college that she would find someone who did love her, as she deserved. Who would liquefy her hardened heart, to find the giving soul that has been hiding from her mother's tirades. It was then that Cynthia would investigate her mother's past, to find answers to who her mother has become. The answers that would come in the dead of night. Midnight Princess.
A standalone, opposites attract romance that will have you ready to turn the next page.
